Valentine Day is that special time of the year when people are busy celebrating the essence of love. However, on the darker side, it is also a time when cyber criminals are looking to cash on your hunt for the love of your life.

So, just in case you are looking to hook up on some online dating site to hunt for your love mate, BEWARE!

Cyber criminals may just be waiting for this kind of opportunity to lure you into fake online dating apps with the help of valentine themed content like games, greetings, compatibility horoscopes and more. While it’s perfectly fine to log onto these sites, you simply need to be careful about few important things:

#1 Before you hit the download button for installing any valentine-themed app, be absolutely sure to check and re-check the developer website of that app. It is also a good practice to read through the reviews.

#2 As a thumb rule, say “NO” to webcam chat, regardless of whether or not you are talking to the person for the first time. You may not even realize if some hacker may be impersonating as someone known to you, only to trick you into sharing objectionable pics that they may later use against you.

#3 In case you are determined about logging onto some online dating site, be sure to use a strong password while setting up your profile. Most importantly, never use the same password that you already have for your personal Gmail or social media accounts.

#4 Be absolutely wary of links shared via chats. Clicking onto such links may lead you to fake websites or infected sites that can infect your system with malware.

#5 As much as possible, control the temptation to log onto some new online dating app that you may have never heard or read about, especially on Valentine Day. This may be a fake app.

#6 Completely ignore apps that ask you for money or personal details in order to provide you access to a particular or exclusive service.

#7 Take care to check the data and privacy policy of the dating site you are trying to log into, before you start sharing your details. Make sure that the site has a privacy policy in place and the data is not indexed by search engines.

The best way however is to go out and start socializing with people. Who knows, you may just cross your ways with the love of your life!
