Fake emails – Adobe Critical Upgrade

A new fake email which pretends to be from Adobe is in the wild and spreading on the Internet. The email has an attachment which contains an executable file having PDF icon.

If the user gets convinced by this email and executes the file the computer gets infected. The sample I came across installs a rogueware named Privacy Protection. It shows that your computer is badly infected.

Subsequently the rogueware keeps prompting the user for activation so that the attacker can get money from it. Eventually, the rogueware may download other malicious files which may lead to a case of online data theft.

Quick Heal detects and deletes the attached file along with the installed rogueware.
