Solution to System Freezing Issue faced by Quick Heal Users

It has been brought to our notice that some of our users are facing a technical issue wherein their computer hangs up/freezes after performing a restart. This post explains the steps to be taken to resolve this issue.

Problem description:
A certain group of Quick Heal users have reported that their computer tends to freeze/hang up after restart. The problem occurred after users received the update that was released on 14th March 2016 at around 9:08 PM.

Symptoms:

  • Computer freezes while booting and a black screen appears.
  • In some cases, the user is able to boot the computer and the desktop is loaded. But, the system freezes when any operation is performed like clicking on the Start Menu or My Computer, launching Windows Explorer, etc.

Affected users:

  1. Quick Heal AntiVirus Pro (v16.00)
  2. Guardian NetSecure (v16.00)

Note: Except the ones listed above, all other Quick Heal products are unaffected.

Affected language version:

  • English

Affected Operating Systems:

  • Windows 7 and above

Solution for affected users:
We recommend users to follow the steps mentioned below:

If system is not at all usable you can try starting the computer in Safe Mode and implement the steps below. In this case, you will need to download the ZIP file (DisableARW.zip) on some other computer and transfer it to the affected computer using a pen drive, etc. If your system is functioning normally, then the below steps can be implemented in normal mode.

1. Click on the link below; this will download a ZIP file named “DisableARW.zip”:
> https://dlupdate.quickheal.com/tools/DisableARW.zip

2. Go to the location where the file DisableARW.zip has been downloaded. Right click on it, to extract it to any temporary location

3. After extraction, you will get a file named “DisableARW.REG”. Double click on it.

4. Click Yes to the confirmation message displayed by Registry Editor. Click OK

5.  Restart the system

Important recommendation for unaffected users:
Users who have received the 14th March update but haven’t faced the computer restart/freeze issue, are recommended to apply the update released on 15th March 2016 at around 3:25 PM. Also, they are advised not to restart their computer before applying this update.

    I face the problem in one of pc since today morning, I take all necessary steps to resolve it but it’s not over. so i thought that it’s might be OS problem so after dinner i must go for format system. and suddenly massage flash in notification area by quick heal, i open and steps that shown on this page is solve my problem… thank you quick heal team

  8. Quick Heal Antivirus has suddenly turned off since morning of 15 january,2016 and it is not turning on again. I have downloaded the file file that is recommended but still its not working. The computer hangs after some time. Please reply to the earliest.

        Hello Rajib,
        Had to suffer the loss of work for couple of days and was feeling helpless until I just clicked on Quick Heal update notification and realized its all because of QHL update on 14th and hopefully now it wont happen again.
        I appreciate acceptance and correction honestly from Quick heal. Hope wont repeat this.
        A suggestion, I don’t think the best way to notify this corrective action would be a small popup coming in a corner of window which usually users click on close button. There has to be better way to highlight such a critical action.

  13. I faced the subject problem continuously on 14th March and even now. But now Quickheal is updated for your 15th March update. Is it necessary for me to follow the procedure mentioned by you in your 15th March post as above?
    If yes, is it not feasible for you to attend to the bug introduced in the 14th March update by any appropriate update from your end?

    I tried calling your customer support team for resolving of certain issues related to your guardian antivirus. The call was getting through with a message that the lines were busy. This is ridiculous and when it rings someone at your end disconnects it. Are you there to give quality service or to play the fool. I was using Kaspersky all these years and its service was quite good. But then I thought of shifting to Guardian just to check how it was. On the 1st attempt itself it was bad. Sorry I will not recommend your product to any one and neither will I use it next time.

  26. FROZE 8 of my workplace computers. At least test your updates before releasing them.
    One computer is completely dead and doesn’t even boot in safe mode. Too much of a headache resolving the issue.

    This show how “UNPROFESSIONAL” Quick Heal Pro is. I feel sorry I purchased it.
    It created so much problem to me that I had to call a computer professional who told me that Quick Heal Pro Antivirus is acting like a “VIRUS” and affecting your computer and restored it to my previous state of computer.

    That’s so unprofessional of you, i can’t even begin to tell what i had to do for recovering my system. I had to restart my laptop 40-45 times by turning off. Sequentially i started to debug start-up services and found quick heal to be responsible for system freeze issue.
    Shouldn’t you push this issue through email ? Now that i have resolved this issue by my self, i’m getting this push notification that you were responsible for this much trouble. I’m not going to opt for quickheal in near future. I have been using this product for almost 7 years, but this is heights of limits.
    Check your updates before pushing them to users.

  34. Hi, I got this problem. Couldnt even shut down. Itws only dark. Had of pull out the cell to shut down. Then booted in safe mode and made a system restore. Now its functioning. Will the problem cause again ??

    How to boot windows 8 and windows 10 system in safe mode. There is no safe mode option we are suffering this problem from yesterday and today also. I have formatted more than 10 system due to this problem.we are not expecting this type problem in future.

    can imagine how we they suffer and how i manage them for one day. some clients do not want to use ur product any more as they are charted acct . some of them are taking legal advice too. what should be done ?

    Hi,

    I had the second symptom of freeze. The computer initially freeze and could not even shut it down. Later when restarted it loaded the desktop but again freeze. I called the engineer and he suggested to reinstall OS. Now I am applying update after reinstalling quickheal.

    My question is will it affect again, I expect the problem with the mentioned update is removed so that i get no problems ahead in updating?

  55. I am not satisfied with your utterly unprofessional response as well as approach. You should have sent mails to all users rather than just a push mail.

    Why do we have to follow a procedure prescribed by you? The solution should have been incorporated in the next update i.e. 15th March.

    Your response to all has been the same, there is no difference in your response to various messages irrespective of the contents of the messages. It is just a ‘copy-paste’ job.

    When the system used to get frozen, we had to put the main power off and then restart to encounter the same problem again. Putting the main power umpteen times (instead of shutting the system off properly) put the whole system at a great risk. Hope nothing adverse has taken place to the system during so many cycles of the putting the main power off.

    You should compensate all affected by offering an additional year of free subscription.

    I have been using other antivirus’ before I bought Quick Heal Antivirus PRO in December,2015.
    Since then the credit in my Modem vanishes after a few hours of loading instead of lasting for 30 days.

    In view of the above, I bought a brand new GLO Modem thinking the old modem was faulty but found out again that the credit did vanish again.
    Please advice on how I can remedy the situation before me.

    I couldn’t overcome this problem yet. My system is unstable, restarts several times, some very important files are missing and moreover my entire D drive needs to be reformatted. If I format D drive(50 Gb data) I will loose my recent (entire 2015) files which I hadn’t copied to my external hard . Guide me to recover this drive without formatting. Otherwise I will uninstall Guardian which I am using since 2010 and will purchase Norton or MacAfee or Kasper.
    I think you understand what does it mean to lose 50 GB data related to ones professional career.

  60. What you guys have done is pretty bad. I was using this antivirus on 15 PCs. Errors happen but the way you guys have treated this issue is pretty BAD. No more business from me or anyone I know around me. Just learnt another lesson. You get what you pay for!!!

    I lost two full days due to this. Your solution was not enough, because my laptop could not come anywhere near starting – the right and left click would not work. It took my hardware support people a whole day to fix it!
    I am still fine with accepting the apology – and giving a chance for no such instances.
    But what APPALS me is that every comment above has got a “Copy/pasted” response… which seems as good as automated!

    Is there no personal touch anywhere about this??

    my laptop was also facing black screen problem due to 14march update , but since my sister’s laptop in which there is also quickheal installed , I saw news and got solution ..

    BUT WHAT IF I WOULDN’T SAW ON SISTER’S LAPTOP I WOULD NOT HAVE GOT SOLUTION…

    My laptop with Windows 10 froze up and i was unable to even boot it. I had no option but to go to restore point and that made the system to reload Windows o/s which took a heel of a time. I was in a hurry to catch flight and landed into lot of tension. After Windows 10 reloaded, i had to once again go through the entire process of building up all the applications. Your one mistake has made so many to suffer. Please make sure you don’t repeat this since everyones time is precious and you never know who is in emergency. After the update of 15 March, it stabilized. I have also followed the steps you had advised even after the system is ok. Hope this will not repeat.

    This problem occurred with me as well. Rajib you should have sent us a mail that would had been very convenient. I have a broken laptop screen which made it difficult to get in through safe mode and have wasted around 3 days. I thought there was some virus problem. Thank God some how had an earlier restore which saved me. Next time kindly see that you send a mail or sms atleast.

    Really had a tough time since last 3 days,couldn’t do any work on my computer at all. Umpteen number of switching off at the mains and turning it on has resulted in the computer not recognising the wireless keyboard and mouse now. Without knowing what was the problem, bought a new USB keyboard and mouse today. By chance happened to see the push notification and have carried out your advice just now. Hope I don’t encounter anymore problems.The least you could have done was to send email notifications, it would have saved lot of problems and resources. I am in two minds now whether to continue with Quick Heal or not, but unfortunately I have paid for 3 years subscription in advance!!

    Hi Rajeev,purchased quick heal antivirus pro from Snapdeal(order no 12367520310).Yesterday while installing using CD,the CD didn’t executed.So your call centre team suggested me to install using website set up.I did this,but after 1st reboot,the cursor got freezed,and I was unable to log into windows,as keypad and thumbpad got hanged.Then I used a USB keyboard and logged into safe mode,and did a system restore to 9.3.16.The quick heal automatically uninstalled,then freezing problem resolved.Then I read your blog,and followed the procedure to install DisableARW.REG after fresh installation.Throughout the midnight I did this tidious job.Again system got hanged.Then today morning i contacted your remote assistance technical team.They also failed to resolve my issue.They suggested to install drivers.That I did too,even after that same problem occurred.

    This is not an anti virus,its acting like a virus.Also the CD provided is not working.I am going to lodge a refund from Snapdeal.Please help in getting the refund.Otherwise I will take Quickheal and snapdeal to consumer court.

  85. i have paid quick heal complete security pack, i tried to boot time scan my Windows 10 PC with it, and this turn out to be a nightmare for me. The Boot time scan starts with Restart of PC.. and it goes on and on, 10 hours gone but it doesn’t get completed. I press Escape,’ turn off button’ everything but all in vain. Atlast when battery got discharged after 12 hours my system get shutdowned ,and when i started it again, its working normal.. may i know why my sys got freezes/hanged during the scan.

    My computer is running good, there is no issue in boot , but whenever the quick heel is updated automatically it freezes for about 5 minutes until it show me the notification as “Quick Heel is Updated” . Once the message is shown its again start working.

    Does it apply to WinXP SP3. I also face the same problems of system freeze after clicking any icon.

  98. i have also a issue that my quick heal is telling me to restart my pc for defragmentation but i have restarted my pc more than 3 time still its saying your pc requires restart for defragmentation of hard disk. give give me the solution what to do?

    i m using guardian netsecure product version 16.00(9.0.4.6), virus data base 10th sep 2016
    in xp sp3 512mb ram 32 bit, intel centrino duo 1.73GHz

  102. hi sir i’ve installed quick heal antivirus total security .actually speakers are not working well in my laptop from starting after installing QH speakers are working fine now thanks for that ,,,,, sir actually i have a issue sleep mode is not working i mean its working but when i pressed power button then hp logo appears and whole process is done like switching on/off… this is the problem i am facing coz before sir when i press button it always shows the lock screen window sir please it’s a humblr request solve this issue

    I am also facing a problem since morning about 10 am,,when i update my guardian net secure it shows” unable to complete the download process due to internet connection disconnected by remote side .please check your internet connection and run Quick update to update your guardian .(Error ID: 1004.)”

  107. I have just installed ‘Quick heal antivirus pro 2016’ and while applying updates it freezes in the end…i restarted my laptop and tried to update the virus defination again but it hangs in the end while applying the updates….plz help

  110. I also wasted a day or two and was blaming hardware. After disabling Quick Heal, computer stopped hanging. I don’t think I will use Quick Heal unless they fix the problem at their end.

  111. Quick Heal was working fine on my PC with Windows XP for last over two years. When i shifted to windows 7 computer (with properly permissions), computer hangs and works only on disabling Quick Heal. I am not getting any support. What should I do. Can you suggest another Antivirus?

  112. sir I installed quickheal then to use it I had to restart bit after restart my laptop stuck on logging screen I can’t move my cursor and I can’t type my password and Ctrl+alt+dlt is not working keyboard is working in bios but not in logging screen plzzz help !!

  117. sir, i was doing boot time scan with guardian netsecure on windows 10. the scanning was takingg too much time… for stop scanning i pressed ‘esc’ but scanning was not stopping… so, i forcely shut down the pc … now i Switch on the pc the pc goes freezing and hanging… PLEASE HELP,, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

I choose boot time scan option in my quick heal and when it start doing that after some time some it stops scaning and freezes when scaning something in c drive .. it simply freezes I have to put out battery of my laptop to restart the computer and the boot time is increased upto 3 minutes….help me immedietly please sir

    Hello Sir!

    I am having a problem with my Quick Heal Boot Time Scan, it always scan during my booting and it won let me use Windows 7 as normal. It will always pop up and do it’s thing even if you cancel it a thousand times! I even let it finish it’s scanning so i might can use my Windows normally but even after 3 hours it wont complete, additionally it is also deleting important files which i’m sure that don’t contain viruses, sadly i cant even access Safe Mode anyway. Can you help me with what’s going on and can you suggest a way to fix this error?
