India completely un-prepared for cyber crime and espionage shows report

Shadows in the Cloud report (link to PDF) which was recently published by researchers in Canada shows India most vulnerable and most infected nation amongst all. This report documents a complex ecosystem of cyber espionage that systematically compromised government, business, academic and other computer networks in India and other several nations. Detailed analysis of report suggests India among the most targeted country with maximum number of infected computers in the country.

This report highlights the statistics of Shadows’ attackers who seems to be operating from China. The detail report gives elaborate information on how the command and control was executed and operated with geographical statistics of compromised computers. It was observed that India had the highest concentration of compromised computers.

Lots of documents classified as SECRET, RESTRICTED and or CONFIDENTIAL that were accessed from Diplomatic Missions and Government Entities of India. The documents contained sensitive information about India’s security situation in the states of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura, as well as concerning the Naxalites and Maoists.

Not only government, private sector companies severs were also hacked and the report has the names of DLF Ltd, Tata and few others.

The report clearly states that Government of India was most victimized. One must really go through the details of the report which is pointing towards our unpreparedness of cyber espionage and such new edge cyber warfare.
