There is nothing new about the fact that scam artists are once again using a celebrity’s name to spread their spam on Facebook. This time it’s Rihanna whose name is embroiled in the scam.
This spam message, “OMG – I just hate RIHANNA after watching this video” followed by a fraudulent link, carries the description “you will lost your all respect for RIHANNA after watching this” [sic].
People are always curious to read any gossip related to celebrities and are also eager to watch any video related to it. Scammers are taking advantage of this curiosity and craze that people have for their favorite celebrities.
Facebook scammers have taken advantage of celebrity names like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson and many more for spreading spam on Facebook in the past.
After clicking on the link the user gets redirected to a fake video page and is asked to share the link before watching the video. By doing this the user inadvertently begins spreading spam on Facebook.
Thereafter no video will be played. Instead, the user will be asked to complete an online survey.
To be safe do not click on anything which is suspicious looking just to satisfy your curiosity. Also check your Messages and Wall to make sure you’re not spreading the scam.
