If you receive one of these scam emails it is important that you do not respond to it in anyway. It is a traditional scamming trick that has been detected many times in the past. The scammer targets people who have a habit of playing online lotteries. The scammers are likely to act upon any response from anyone they see as a potential victim. It may be possible that the attachment with certain emails contains malicious or vulnerable code which can probably infect the user’s computer.
If you have provided your banking details or a large amount of personal information like copies of your driver’s license and passport to the scammers, then you may become a victim of identity theft. Scammers could use your identity for carrying out various other crimes.
Unfortunately, there is very little you can do to recover any money you may have already supplied. However, you should inform your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.
We recommend that you ignore and do not respond to such fraudulent emails.
