Beware of the Apple ID Suspension Phishing Scam!

A phishing scam is doing the rounds on the Internet, and is targeted towards users with Apple ID and iCloud account. Read on.

Users of Apple products are apparently receiving emails that claim to be from Apple support. The email urges users to complete their account verification, failing which their Apple ID and iCloud will be suspended.

The email also tries to convince the user by informing that the Apple Support had sent such notifications earlier, but they did not receive any response. There is a ‘Verify Now’ button in the email, clicking on which, will supposedly allow the user to complete the verification process for their Apple ID. But, what really happens is this.

  1. Clicking on the ‘Verify Now’ button takes the user to a fake page that looks exactly like an Apple Login Page.
  2. Thereafter, the user gets redirected to another fake Apple page that asks for personal and financial information such as banking and credit/debit card details.

Now, there might be some users (investigators) who might suspect the email to be a phishing attack and would like to test what happens if they proceed further. So, even if they provide false details in these fake pages, they will be automatically redirected to an adult website, which could be compromised and may infect the user’s system with a malware.

What should you do?

  1. Never trust any email that asks you to give away your personal or financial information, even if the email seems to be from a legit company.
  2. If the email sounds too urgent, then contact the customer care of the organization by visiting its official website.
  3. Do not visit login pages of any website by clicking on links embedded in emails or text messages. The safest way is to type the site’s URL in the address bar and then proceed.
  4. Have an antivirus software in your computer that can detect and block spam and unwanted messages – these are the most common carriers of infected attachments and phishing links.

    Sir,
    One of my friends told me today that if you type one or two sentences in notepad and then save it with a .bat (windows batch file) format and then launch it, it will act like a virus, although a very weak one.
    I thought of trying it on my hp laptop(win 8.1). I also created the .bat file, but did not launch it out of fear. But when I single-clicked on it to delete it, it was accidently double-clicked and it got launched. I immediately deleted the file.
    Is it worrying, although I haven’t noticed any unusual activity on my laptop (last one hour)?

      .bat files execute cmd commands. These format/shutdown/copy/paste etc. These are just system commands and not technically any code. But it can cause harm, like get your Harddisk to format?

      You can always click edit a bat file to see the codes to know what it is for. You can also convert it to .exe file using Batch to executable converters.

      no dont worry it is not that easy to create a virus and the one that your friend told might be a simple command .virus are really complex software and you must know core coding to write them so your safe…..

      No Its not Worrying, its not really a virus. Because the virus Has A Special type of Coding. Virus Cannot be Created with Any Sentence
