Brightest Flashlight Android app – Not so Bright After all
Looks like, Android’s popular app, Brightest Flashlight App, has not only been lighting users’ way but selling their information to advertisers, without their consent, as well. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has accused the maker, Goldenshores Technologies of deceiving consumers with this app. Apparently the app has been collecting user location and device ID and selling the data to advertisers; without the user’s consent. Fortunately, Goldenshores Technologies has agreed to erase all user information collected so far, and to fully disclose their policy of sharing user data with advertisers. The moral of the story here is – beware of such apps that do more than what they are supposed to. More on this news here.

Neverquest is the new banking Trojan on the Loose – Beware!
A new banking Trojan is out on the streets; it goes by the name ‘Neverquest.’ It is a Trojan that steals login credentials from users when they login to their online banking sites. The Trojan is spreading via social media, email attachments, and file transfer protocols. Reportedly, the Trojan has already affected several victims across the world. It seems, hackers are targeting major banking systems in Germany, Italy, Turkey and India. Also, the Trojan seems to affect users of Internet Explorer and Mozilla.

Once Neverquest infects a machine, it gets activated when the victim visits any one site from the list of targeted banking websites. The Trojan can also detect certain banking keywords like balance, account summary, etc., and sends the information to the hackers. It is said that Neverquest attacks are going to rise in future. We would advise users to keep their browsers, OS, and software up-to-date and patched. Equally important is to run regular scan on their computers, and keeping their antivirus software updated.
