Windows 7 most praised security features got compromised at Pwn2Own

The most talked about hacking contest Pwn2Own ended with bad news for Microsoft. The hackers were finally able to make their way and disable the Windows 7 data execution prevention (DEP) and address space layout randomization (ASLR). These two were the most highly praised security features of Windows 7.

Security researchers Peter Vreugdenhil from Netherlands and Nils from Germany won the “Pwn2Own” hacking contest by hacking their ways around IE8’s security features.

Not only Microsoft but other prominent browsers also got hacked as researchers easily exploited flaws in Firefox and Safari.

This contest is of great help as it has been observed that vendors take these flaws seriously and come out with the patches for the same immediately.
